Overview

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved Restylane injectable gel is a cosmetic filler that contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that is found in the body. HA gives volume and elasticity to the skin, but as the body ages, HA levels decrease, resulting in loose skin and wrinkling. When injected, Restylane gel is designed to plump the skin beneath lines and wrinkles, smoothing them out and making them less noticeable. Many patients seeking eyelid surgery are often surprised to learn that their problems can be corrected with Restylane. Dr. James Gordon is best known for his particular expertise with using Restylane in the tear trough area to hide dark circles and bags. Dr. Gordon is also one of 3% of doctors qualified as an ExpertInjector™ by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). His patient before-and-after photos are frequently featured in the press.

About The Procedure

The most common areas for Restylane treatment are the tear trough (under eyes) area and the nasolabial folds (which run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth). Restylane injectable gel is also FDA-approved, for those 21 and older, for enhancing the lips. Dr. Gordon performs Restylane treatments in his office’s minor procedures room as an out-patient procedure in about 15 minutes.

During/After The Procedure

Patients are able to leave immediately after their Restylane treatment and resume light to moderate activities. Dr. Gordon advises patients to wait at least 3 – 5 days before resuming strenuous activity. Patients should schedule a follow up appointment for 1 – 2 weeks after their treatment so Dr. Gordon can check their results and any side effects. Restylane treatments usually show results for up to 6 months, but this varies between patients. Eventually, the hyaluronic acid will be naturally and safely absorbed by the body and patients can receive another treatment.

Expected Cost

Patients should expect to pay between $750 and $1,400 for Restylane treatments. The cost will vary based on the amount of Restylane that Dr. Gordon uses during the session.

Restylane FAQs

Restylane Silk?

While very similar to other products in the Restylane family, Restylane Silk is designed to work specifically on the lines around the mouth and for lip enhancement. Restylane Silk is made of smaller, smoother particles than other Restylane treatments and injected with an ultrafine needle to allow Dr. Gordon to create natural-looking enhancements in this delicate area.

Active Ingredient?

All products in the Restylane family, including Restylane Silk, are made with a biocompatible hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. The synthetic HA in Restylane adds to the body’s natural supply of HA to increase the skin’s elasticity and hydration.

Lasting Results?

Restylane can last up to 18 months when patients continue to get touch up treatments 4 – 9 months apart. Each follow up treatment will use less product and begin to last longer.
